Comparing Hilditch, Rosenfeld, Zhang-Suen,and Nagendraprasad -Wang-Gupta Thinning

چکیده
This paper compares Hilditch, Rosenfeld, ZhangSuen, dan Nagendraprasad Wang Gupta (NWG) thinning algorithms for Javanese character image recognition. Thinning is an effective process when the focus in not on the size of the pattern, but rather on the relative position of the strokes in the pattern. The research analyzes the thinning of 60 Javanese characters. Time-wise, Zhang-Suen algorithm gives the best results with the average process time being 0.00455188 seconds. But if we look at the percentage of pixels that meet one-pixel thickness, Rosenfelt algorithm gives the best results, with a 99.98% success rate. From the number of pixels that are erased, NWG algorithm gives the best results with the average number of pixels erased being 84.12%. It can be concluded that the Hilditch algorithm performs least successfully compared to the other three algorithms. Keywords—Hilditch algorithm, Nagendraprasad-Wang-Gupta algorithm, Rosenfeld algorithm, Thinning, Zhang-suen algorithm

A note on the Nagendraprasad-Wang-Gupta thinning algorithm
A symmetrized version of the Nagendraprasad-Wang-Gupta thinning algorithm (Digital Signal Processing 3(1993)97) is presented, which produces simpler and more elegant skeletons of handwritten characters at zero extra computational cost.
متن کاملA Review on an Efficient Iterative Thinning Algorithm
Thinning is the important technique used in the image processing. The first step in the Thinning is “PreProcessing”. This Thinning technique is used to represent the structural shape of the image. This thinning technique is used to compress the image and also to display the skeleton of the image. Skeletonization is a process of reducing foreground regions of a binary image to a skeleton form th...
متن کاملA Review Paper on Thinning of Image Using Zhang and Suen Algorithm and Neural Network
This review paper provides a concise survey on different techniques for thinning and their comparison in image processing. Thinning is one of the fundamental requirements is to represent the structural shape of digital images. This can be done by reducing it to a graph. This process may be completed by obtaining the skeleton of the particular region of the image or the full image using skeleton...
متن کاملReview on Thinning to Increase the Thinning Rate of Binary Image
Thinning is the preprocessing stage to make easy higher level analysis and recognition for such applications like OCR, thinning techniques have been applied in many fields such as automated industrial inspection, pattern recognition, biological shape description and image coding etc. The main objective of thinning is to improve efficiency, to reduce transmission time. There are various algorith...

Kundu, M.K., B.B. Chaudhuri and D. Dutta Majumder, A parallel graytone thinning algorithm (PGTA), Pattern Recognition Letters 12 (1991) 491-496. A parallel graytone thinning algorithm (PGTA) is proposed in this paper. This algorithm is a generalization of a well-known two-tone thinning algorithm of Zhang and Suen (1984) and is equally applicable for both graytone and two-tone images. The perfor...
